More about Realise the Dream
‘Realise the Dream’ is a project to raise the profile of disabled sports in the Sudan. The social issue that it tackles is that of inclusivity. Provision for the disabled in Sudan is at a very minimal standard and there is a great deal to be done. There are a number of NGOs and charities that work hard to improve the lot of the disabled members of Sudanese society and to enhance the meagre provision that is made by a government more concerned with its own survival than in bettering the lives of its citizens. The work of charity organisations is absolutely essential in this situation.
By significantly improving the provision of coaching, equipment and access to regional competitions for disabled athletes, ‘Realise the Dream’ intends to boost the athletes’ performances and greatly increase public awareness of their endeavours. We hope through this that more young men and women will start joining in training sessions and that we can in this way break down many of the restrictions and taboos that prevent the disabled in Sudan from participating fully in society.
