More about Running for Rights

The Komera Project uses running as a tool for female empowerment and rights in Rural Rwanda. The Girls Fun Run is an annual community event in Rwinkwavu, Rwanda, that draws over 400 participants and celebrates girls’ empowerment. This event is the only one of its kind in Rwanda. Komera Scholars to lead the run with the local primary schools, encourage the boys to cheer for the girls, and build community awareness and commitment for girls’ education.

The Komera Project also created the Run to Rwanda school program to enable young students in the U.S. and Canada to learn about Rwanda and to sponsor Komera scholars who participate in the run. Students in the U.S. and Canada explore the interactive curriculum, The Promise of Rwanda: Gender Equality, Education and the Komera Scholars.
