More about Khazzan Young Leaders' Programme
In Oman, youth employment is a key government priority. The private sector requires employees who offer more than academic qualifications and students have identified the lack of training in these skills as a gap in their education.
Interpersonal skills are not taught in colleges, despite being sought-after in the workplace. Sport develops these abilities and Oman Sail has the expertise and infrastructure to implement their provision. BP has enabled Oman Sail to address this national skills shortage and establish this project though investment in the Khazzan Young Leaders’ Programme.
Using Oman’s strong maritime tradition, we are enhancing interpersonal skills and therefore youth employability. This is achieved by using the sport of sailing to train young people, insuring that the basics of self-leadership, communication and teamwork are understood. The programme is a sustainable, meaningful project, which creates opportunities for job seekers, ensuring that they are better equipped to enter employment and become valuable members of organisations within the Sultanate.
