FutbolNet started as a social development project implemented in vulnerable areas in Catalonia, especially in the slums of Barcelona. The underlying idea was to use sport as a tool to promote holistic development and foster social interaction amongst kids that were experiencing serious conflicts at home and were performing badly at school. The experience was so positive in its first year that it attracted international attention and received requests to be implemented overseas.
FutbolNet typically works on five values which are considered vital for the holistic human development: effort, respect, teamwork, humility and ambition.
Both families and schools participating in the program FutbolNet participants recognize changes in the participants involving more focus and concentration in the classroom, a greater effort in completing homework and improved academic results. The program has proven to contribute to the creation of spaces for encounter, dialogue and exchange to promote cohesion and social inclusion through its activities.
