More about Get Active Project (GAP)
Get Active Project (GAP) has been designed to implement key strategic educational objectives such as increased life skills, leadership, independence, emotional stability and assertiveness. Regular out-of-school Hours’ Clubs are held within the local primary schools, which include schools for disabled children. A range of football and educational activities are been organized at least once a week to meet the needs of children in these schools. A particular attention is paid to the inclusion of girls in the project activities. GAP supports the development of thinking skills, encouraging pupils to learn meaningfully, think flexibly and make reasoned judgment as independent learners.
The project has the potential to: promote pupils independent learning; help pupils to recognize the importance of all roles in football; raise standards of achievement; underpin leadership development; develop self-esteem and team work; develop positive sporting attitudes; help pupils to improve their concentration and motivation and have better relationship with their teachers. Football Education in our schools has much bigger role than simply producing the stars of the future. Not every child has the natural ability required to play for a big club or indeed Nigerian National Team; but every child given quality teaching and coaching can find enjoyment and development through direct involvement with football.
Football conveys a positive feeling that can bring smiles to children faces even in the worst circumstances. GAP improves the learning performance of children, encouraging school attendance and a desire to succeed academically.
