GOP initiative is a pioneering program that aims to use the convening power of sports to minimize effects of poverty on marginalized groups; orphans and vulnerable children; and widows. Sports bring individuals from all backgrounds and social statuses together to explore serious and sensitive issues. Sport has power to create lasting individual and social change.
Essence is to promote integration, interaction and uniting people through sports. Promote communication and heal the divisions between peoples and communities. Year theme: Promoting access to clean and safe water, the major social issue we are focused at tackling. Nevertheless issues like education, health and sanitation will be tackled. In sports, water is essential; participants have to hydrate to avoid burnout. Clean and safe water is required to revitalize and energize participants. We intend to use this approach/principle to tackle issues of access to clean and safe water in the everyday life of participants through partnership; raising awareness and sensitization; and ensuring the community accesses clean and safe water.
The event showcases the use of sport as a driver and tool to achieve social transformation; personal empowerment; responsibility civic participation; active involvement; and instill the critical “We can” attitude that’s vital for development.
