Football United’s Playing For Change program uses the magic and power of the world game of football as a means to engage and empower youth from refugee, migrant, Indigenous and lower socio-economic backgrounds as the leaders and mentors of programs for children.
We address issues of racial tension, social cohesion and inclusion within culturally and linguistically diverse communities, where there is a high percentage of refugee and humanitarian immigrant settlement, Indigenous and low socio-economic families.
The physical and emotional development of youths between the ages of 15-18 is at an extreme and critical phase. This phase is often associated with an increasing detachment from family, education and sport. In our target communities, this is exacerbated by limited access to mainstream sporting activities, frustration with an inflexible schooling system, few outlets for informal leisure and distinct challenges in dealing with language and family circumstances.
Our program provides a crucial intervention at this critical period of development and helps create a brighter future.
