Football for Social Change Project (FSCP) is a new pilot project implemented within Rwanda Village Concept Project. FSCP started from June 2012 it aimed at Young Girls and Adolescent Mother empowerment on SRHR, HIV/AIDS and its stigma and discrimination prevention and family planning through football matches. FSCP beneficiaries was mainly under 27 years-old young girls and adolescents’ mothers of Tumba, Huye, Mbazi, Mpungwe and Ngoma sectors of Huye district and these are groups of people that are vulnerable to sexual violence, unwanted pregnancies, HIV/AIDS and isolation due to their social status.
In recent years; these sectors have been severely impacted by HIV/AIDS, sexual violence and increased of unwanted pregnancies as the impacts of lack of related programs to educate women.
Many girls especially orphans and other vulnerable young girls were moved and led into prostitution due in large, to lower level of education, poverty and lack of knowledge of other alternatives. After analyzing the mentioned problems in the targeted groups, we have concluded that by organizing Football for Social Change Project to remove barriers for young girls and adolescents mothers regarding SRHR.
