More about Football Plus
The St Matthew’s Project exists to provide a safe and encouraging environment where young people aged 6-21 can come together and enjoy structured football sessions and other activities, including trips, youth volunteering, training opportunities, healthy lifestyle and drug awareness workshops and one-to-one support. We aim to help the children and young people of south Brixton fulfil their potential and have a real impact on their community through the provision of positive, credible activities, which take place at particular times in specific places, so that young people know the project is always there for them.
When our participants come together to attend our activities, whether they are 8 or 18, they enjoy a sense of belonging to something worthwhile and see themselves, regardless of where they live, as belonging to a new ‘community’ – the St. Matthew’s Project. It is this same shared identity that is at the heart of a street gang, one of the most influential hierarchies for many young people in our area today, and it helps to draw young people in.
