Fields of Dreams Uganda provides hope to the vulnerable and orphaned children of Uganda through the vehicles of soccer and education. Uganda is the youngest country in the world. The median age of 15.1 years is primarily the result of poverty, the HIV/AIDS epidemic and war. Orphans make up approximately 3,000,000 or 9% of the country’s population. There is an entire generation in Uganda with relatively few parents or mentors. Parents and mentors are essential to a child’s capacity to have hope in their own future. Fields of Dreams Uganda partners directly with Ugandan orphanages to help fill this void. First, they provide sports equipment and facility upgrades to the orphanages.

Then native Ugandan coaches and education advocates are hired to work with the children. The coaches teach life skills through their sports programming such as work ethic, teamwork, discipline, and goal setting. The education advocates work with the orphanage teachers to assist the children in setting career goals and creating plans to achieve those goals. The children utilize the life skills they learn from sports programming as they work to achieve their career goals. This improves their belief in their own abilities and boosts their capacity to hope.
