Children and youth living in the most under-developed neighborhoods of the department of Atlantico are constantly exposed to issues that have a very serious negative effect on their development: drugs, gangs, violence, sexual abuse, recruitment into armed groups, and prostitution. When these risk factors are combined with the lack of positive role models and an excess of free time, it is nearly impossible for youth to escape poverty´s vicious circle and become positive active members in their society. According to the World Health Organization nearly two thirds of the premature deaths and one third of the total morbidity burden in adults is associated with diseases or behaviors that started out in their youth.
FCC helps these children and youth make a long-lasting change to their behavior, developing abilities that will allow them to more adequately confront the challenges they will face in their lives. Soccer is the tool through which these set of values and abilities are developed, basing our curriculum on a constructivism approach. Therefore, every session, purely delivered through football based activities, has an educational goal to fulfill.
