More about Basketball Plus - Mum's A Hero
FIBA's Basketball Plus Strategy seeks to facilitate capable National Basketball Federations to deliver high quality basketball activities that allow participants to become healthy, contributing members of the community. It is active as the Mum’s A Hero program in Fiji, Vanuatu and Timor-Leste, where it seeks to increase female leadership and participation in basketball. The program uses basketball as a tool to educate participants on NCD risk factors and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle (Fiji/Vanuatu) and provides gender empowerment and access to domestic violence support services (Timor-Leste) through effective in-country partnerships. Mum’s A Hero is delivered in communities and targets mothers and women as they are the influencers of family health decisions. FIBA are developing the sport of basketball regionally in the Indo-Pacific and see a seamless connection with this objective and using sport development to influence positive social development outcomes.
