More about Tottenham Hotspur Proudly Supporting SOS Children’s Villages in South Africa
In 2007 Tottenham Hotspur announced a four year partnership with SOS Children’s Villages, the world's largest orphan and abandoned children's charity. The relationship has seen the Club use the profile of football to create awareness and funding for orphaned children. The focus of the Club’s work has been in Rustenburg, South Africa, where Tottenham Hotspur has part financed the construction and ongoing development of an SOS orphan village.
Tottenham Hotspur community coaches have also delivered football coaching clinics in the village as part of an exchange programme with UK students. The Club has also provided continual support for SOS initiatives in the UK, using the Club’s resources, such as the stadium, players and supporters. One such example is the launch of World Orphan Week at White Hart Lane, whereby the Club kicked off the charity’s national week of action during a live football match. The Club also created platforms from which to generate funds and awareness for SOS such as open training days at the stadium and themed events.
