More about The Goals Project
The Goals Project is a 5 week personal development course - part of Street League’s educational programme. Utilising participants’ enthusiasm for football to aid personal and professional development, the course focuses upon developing communication and teamwork skills while building confidence and self-esteem through a combination of engaging seminars and professional football coaching. Participants come from a range of disadvantaged backgrounds such as homelessness, offending and drug/alcohol problems.
The project seeks to overcome barriers that participants face in life and those successfully completing the five-week course attend a graduation ceremony at The FA Headquarters to share their achievements with friends and family. This innovative programme is held at QPR and Millwall FCs, and the motivation for many participants is to play football and each team is professionally coached by a member of either QPR or Millwall’s community department.
The unique project also involves diverse but interrelated modules, which cover sessions on, motivation, psychology, self-belief, filmmaking, money management, drama workshops and, most importantly, job skill sessions such as CV writing and interview techniques. All training is designed to aid participants to progress positively in life.
