More about The Craig Bellamy Foundation League
The Craig Bellamy Foundation League is a social development project that uses football as a mechanism to empower the youth of Sierra Leone and achieve positive change via sport and education. Initially 44 teams, each with 40 team members will be formed throughout the country playing in 9 separate leagues. The league system has been developed so points are achieved not only from match points and thus provides a platform for personal and community development.
Points are awarded as follows: 25% for match results, 25% gained for fairplay, 25% gained from school attendance and 25% for the completion of community projects. Each team will employ two members of staff on a part-time basis. A Team Manager, responsible for the pastoral care and peer and health education of the team members and a Team Coach responsible for all football matters. The Craig Bellamy Foundation League is a project with community development at its centre, focusing on the use of sport as a catalyst for social change.
