In South Africa, the legacy of the political “apartheid” still lingers on. It particularly expresses itself in the disparity evident in the delivery of education to the majority of children, who fall into the previously disadvantaged category. A significant gap exists between those who have access to quality educational resources and those who do not. This gap continues to widen and “catch-up” seems out of reach.
We think that the focused use of sports in less advantaged school contexts, which are deliberately partnered with schools of advantage, will be a powerful “community justice” partnership which has the potential to “level the playing fields” between children in advantaged and disadvantaged schools.
To this end we developed MOU’s with role players and stakeholders (Private School Heads, Department of Education, Department of Sport and Recreation, Universities and Business) to deliver our Move-It, Moving Matters™ Programme as a Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative.
