More about Safe Spaces
The strategy is premised on the idea of participatory approach which means a two way dialogue between the participants and the peer educators. Football’s popularity is used as a “catch” to entice hard-to-reach youth, especially young women to participate and stay actively involved in the educational processes. The teams registered in the league have to participate before and after team talks with the trained peer educators on HIV/AIDS to gain points which will improve the rankings on the log standings. The team that participates most in the discussions stands a better chance of winning the league as more emphasis is on the educational part. This platform provides an opportunity for the peer educators to effectively sensitise the youth on HIV/AIDS using football as convening tool.
