More about SEED Project
The SEED Project uses basketball as a motivational tool to engage youth in educational programs to address school retention and graduation rates in Senegal, and to develop the next generation of African leaders.
In Senegal, 50% of the population is under the age of 18, making it one of the youngest countries in the world. However, only 40% of students attend high school; 8% attend college. For students who are enrolled in school, the student-to-teacher ratio is 42:1. Further, according to the UN Human Development Index, Senegal ranks 155 out of 187 countries in the world in Education (based on mean years of schooling of adults and expected years of schooling children).
We currently serve 2,000 boys & girls, ages 6-20 (grades K – University), with both boarding and after-school programs. Our students hail from every region across Senegal and we have headquarters in Senegal’s two most populous regions, Dakar and Thies. Our programs include: academic tutoring, middle / high school exit exam prep, college application support for Africa / Europe / USA, basketball training, and life-skills seminars (curriculum was co-developed with the NBA).
