More about Stars of Tomorrow
*Stars of Tomorrow is a compact organisation, focussing on development projects in South Africa for orphans, vulnerable and street children in need (6-16 yrs) whose problems are compounded by the world’s highest incidence of HIV/AIDS. In addition to HIV/AIDS-prevention, we promote education, gender-equality and crime-prevention using game-orientated, pedagogical methods. We want to exploit the potential of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to help children grow up in humane conditions, by ensuring social integration and solid education.
Our programme started in 2006 and is designed to promote values like fair play, teamwork, persistence and discipline using sports like football, netball and volleyball. In 2010 we will assist 2,010 children in the area around Soshanguve and Mabopane, the biggest “township area” north of Johannesburg. They convene 3 times a week at 12 meeting points – mostly located at schools – where we offer proper after-school education.
In 2009, a co-operation with the Stellenbosch University used the same concept in the Western Cape, enabling a minimum of 4,000 children to improve their footballing and academic skills. The next big milestone after 2010 will be the extension of *Stars of Tomorrow on another continent with the World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
