More about Sport4Youth
More than 10 years after the war, the tensions between the different ethnic communities of Kosovo are still high, and negatively affect the region’s development. Neighbors’ of different ethnic groups rarely interact, and view each other with a great deal of distrust and prejudice. Moreover, with more than 50% of the population being under 25 years old, an inadequate education system and a huge unemployment rate, youth are particularly vulnerable to social exclusion and ethnic and gender discrimination.
The project empowers youth, encourages their participation in civil society, promotes gender and ethnic equality and fights against discrimination and intolerance. Indeed, sports activities are an extraordinary tool for inclusion of marginalized groups and for promoting inter-ethnic dialogue and conflict resolution. They also empower youth by building their confidence, and developing leadership, teamwork and other transferable skills that they will use in their personal and professional lives.
Sport Sans Frontieres’ pedagogic approach to sports and games specifically focuses on these positive aspects. Games are designed to encourage active learning and raise awareness on issues such as human rights, non-discrimination and tolerance, gender equality, violence against women, the environment and health.
