More about Slum Soccer
What is the specific social issue? Homelessness, which includes a variety of social problems. How do we tackle? Slum Soccer uses a combination of football and transferring knowledge to improve the general life condition of people within the homeless category. The medium predominantly used to deliver training is football. By simply allowing children to play football, they are brought closer which is the first step before imparting the relevant knowledge to them.
The modules that cover each of these subjects are cleverly integrated with football training as football would attract participants to join. The knowledge transfer would mainly happen in sessions around football coaching. The activity can be in the form of a talk, an exercise or a game with the aim of improving a relevant skill. Especially when it comes to the mental and physical health, counseling and medical camps would be organized with the help of psychologists and doctors respectively.
Social Educators and Activists are invited to spread awareness in their respective domains Why is this our focus? Our experience is that we can make a change in the life’s of people with the biggest needs. Football offers direct effect to improve general fitness and social skills. All the additional opportunities of knowledge transfer have greater impact because the target group is actually reachable after bonding through football.
