Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) is a Glasgow based charity which delivers “Education through Sport” programmes to disadvantaged young people across Scotland. SSF’s Shell Twilight Basketball programme targets those young people most at risk where and when they are most at risk. To this end SSF delivers in neighborhoods which suffer from acute youth disorder and anti social behavior. Shell Twilight Basketball is designed to encourage integration, self-efficacy, healthy lifestyles and good citizenship. These issues are tackled in a relaxed and informal environment.

Generating a positive group work identity around an attractive and appealing activity offers an encouraging backdrop to ask young people to consider key topics. Educational inputs address issues such as addictions, diet, activity levels and the realities of racism, sectarianism and territorialism. Youth panels which comprise participants also inform the content and future development of our programmes. Basketball is also a first choice sport for many young refugee and asylum seekers in Scotland and the programmes assist integration and offer participants routes to education, volunteering and employment. SSF benefits from a unique partnership with the Glasgow Rocks professional basketball team, allowing access to professional role models who participate fully in delivery.
