More about San Francisco 49ers Academy & 49ers STEM Leadership Institute
Focus: Providing educational opportunities for underresourced youth
Social issues: School dropout rate for socioeconomically disadvantaged youth and preparing highly motivated underresourced youth to be the leaders of the future.
Recognizing the challenges faced by youth in East Palo Alto, since 1996 the 49ers Foundation has supported the 49ers Academy from top to bottom with grants; player, alumni, ownership, staff involvement; 1000s of tickets, mentorships; facility enhancement; auction donations and wellness programming. In 2014, financial contributions neared $1M.
In 2014, the 49ers launched a new initiative – the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute. This program addresses the needs of underresourced students on the other end of the spectrum – highly motivated/talented youth with the potential to become future STEM leaders by providing 330+ hours of STEM-focused education for free.
