More about Zhang Sah:Brave Scholar Martial Arts
Zhang Sah, Korean for “Brave Scholar,” was founded by Master Salvatore Sandone in 1995 with the name Gold Medal Karate. In 1998, the school began offering an after school martial arts program licensed by the PA Department of Public Welfare as well as the school’s first summer camp season. In late October of 1998, Gold Medal Karate incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization as a reflection of the school’s commitment to community health. The school was renamed Zhang Sah in 2003 and became the first martial arts program in the U.S. to be accredited by the National After-School Association (NAA).
The Zhang Sah project uses martial arts to address social mobility. 80% of the children who attend our program are from low socio-economic backgrounds. By offering a caring environment that is financially accessible and supportive of positive educational outcomes, Zhang Sah provides a forum for skill development, exploration and self expression. The Zhang Sah program aspires to promote wellness and resiliency among its participants and enriches their school day experience in a coordinated fashion that embraces student interests.
