More about Youth Sports Initiatives (YSI)
Despite recognition of the positive impact sport has on health and child development, physical activities is being increasingly challenged within education systems across Nigeria. Challenges include a decrease in:
- the amount of time allocated to Physical Education
- the number of trained staff
- the amount of training provided for Physical Education teachers, and
- lack of resources required to deliver physical activities in public schools.
Sport-participation goes along with improvement in health.
Youth Sports Initiatives (YSI) aim is to increase the number of children and young people participating in football and team fun games in public schools/communities.
One of the many unique aspects of Youth Sports Initiatives is that besides teaching sports skills, encouraging participation and promoting positive competition in a fun atmosphere, it also integrates a variety of life skills into the sessions.
