More about Women's Trekking Guide Training in Nepal
Empowering Women of Nepal (EWN) is a local NGO based in Pokhara, Nepal. Developed by women for women in cooperation with the trekking agency 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking (3Sisters), it aims to empower women both socially and economically through trekking guide training programs. EWN and 3Sisters were founded by three Nepali sisters Lucky, Dicky and Nicky Chhetri, pioneers in the promotion of female trekking guides in the Himalayas.
EWN and 3Sisters work in partnership to provide practical, skill-based training programs combined with gainful employment opportunities, specifically focused on the trekking industry. Responding to the gross inequality of women in Nepal, EWN offers unprecedented opportunities for Nepali women from poor, remote mountainous regions to improve their quality of life. EWN runs 1-month trekking guide training programs twice a year, covering leadership, health, English conversation, nutrition, environment conservation practices, national history, cultural practices and sharing traditions from different areas to aid cultural conservation and understanding. Each program is followed by a 5-month paid apprenticeship working for 3Sisters.
The training is free, with food/lodging and all necessary clothing and trekking equipment provided for women from remote areas during the training and apprenticeship. Further advanced training programs are also available.
