More about We Own our Future
The children and youngsters we work with are living in a context of poverty and social exclusion. They are forced to shape their future in a neighborhood where violence reins, both domestic and drugs related, as well as unemployment, abuse and truancy. Rosario has a rate of 30 homicides per 100.000 inhabitants; the highest of the whole country. Drugs related crime is on the rise. In this context children are the most vulnerable, lacking the skills to break through this negative cycle.
Our sports program helps participants develop life skills needed to take control of their present and future. Using a well-developed methodology sports give them support, self-esteem and confidence so they can set higher goals for themselves. Participants not only receive sports training, but leadership and life skills training that empower them, and allows them to become young coaches and role models for future generations.
The project uses sports as well to provide youngsters with educational support, promoting a healthy lifestyle (tackling issues such as nutrition, hygiene, addiction prevention, safe sexual life, etc.) and providing labor opportunities.
