More about Urban Rugby
Urban Rugby is an established programme of physical activity that by its very nature provides opportunities to priority groups. The concept of non-contact TAG Rugby allows the sport to be played in areas such as housing estates, and areas where sporting opportunities usually are minimal through lack of venues.
The non-contact aspect of Urban Rugby allows all ages and genders to participate. The modified nature of the sport also provides opportunities for disabled participants, who, again are able to join in with able bodied participants of both sexes. The Urban Rugby programme is gaining a reputation for being an inclusive sporting activity.
The cultural diversity of the programme encourages social cohesion as well as providing a diversionary activity for participants in an inner city setting, helping reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. Partnerships that have developed as the programme has matured are Arriva, Exchange Data International, Pcubed, Leathwaite, Haringey Council, Enfield Council, Metropolitan Police, Woodside SSP, St Thomas More SSP, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, Rugby League Foundation, London Summer and Winter of Sport, The London Sports Forum for Disabled People.
