More about University of Missouri Tiger Wheelchair Basketball
MU Tiger Wheelchair basketball promotes a healthy lifestyle, camaraderie, teamwork, sense of self-worth, sportsmanship, competition, and the importance of education. Tiger Wheelchair Basketball gives students with disabilities a chance to compete athletically at an intercollegiate level equal to opportunities available to able-bodied student athletes.
Our athletes must balance the rigors of their academic work with their athletic commitment. Missouri Tiger wheelchair basketball generates an awareness of the abilities of our student athletes, rather than focusing on the various disabilities of our team members. We are able to help our student athletes to become more self-sufficient and independent as they prepare for life beyond college. Tiger Wheelchair Basketball combats feelings of isolation, insecurity, and depression that are more frequent in the disabled population by providing an equal opportunity to participate fully in all aspects of the educational experience. Tiger Wheelchair Basketball places special emphasis on inclusion, opportunity, and ability for our student athletes and generates awareness and education of disability-related issues for our campus and surrounding community.
Active partnerships on campus and in the community help to encourage dialog and understanding of these issues. Athletes focus on giving back to the campus and community, serving as role models for younger players.
