More about United Through Sport
"United Through Sport" celebrates and explores the culture and heritage of sport in Ireland through a unique sequence of promotional films featuring a wide range of celebrated sports personalities alongside young sports enthusiasts.
This is about the personal experience of playing sport, feeling passion for a sport and exploring how sport can transcend the playing field. Who is your sporting hero? How does sport make you feel? Is sport about winning? How important is sport? These are just some of the themes explored.
These sportsmen and women represent the growing diversity in contemporary Irish culture. Black African faces with Kerry accents talking about their enthusiasm for Gaelic football - sport transcends the playing field to make a difference in their lives. The “United Through Sport” campaign gives a voice to individuals whose views are rarely heard in the Irish media – these include ethnic minorities, children, Travellers, disability and special needs groups. For many, sport makes their lives worth living. The campaign creates awareness and promotes positive integration through sport.
