More about United Soccer for Peace
In this program, Mifalot is using soccer as a means to achieve two main goals:
1. Soccer in Israel is extremely popular among young people and draws them to join a program that furthers their occupational qualifications, in this case contrasting with what is customary in their communities (for example, there are not many programs advocating for Arab women in coaching and athletics). By the end of the program they are qualified with a recognized profession that enables them to have competitive, marketable skills in the job field.
2. Soccer transcends language and sector barriers, is a common ground for different cultures, and bridges social gaps. The combination of these two elements provides the opportunity to create a wide influence on the community, since the coaches (Jews and Arabs) return to their home communities and become local community leaders for the youth they train; through them, they continue to implement values of tolerance and peace.
