More about Ubabalo eKhayelitsha
76% of Cape Peninsula University of Technology students grew up without a father and were raised by their gogo's (grandmother) in Khayelitsha. Khayelitsha is the largest township in South Africa and has been described by one Khayelitsha pastor as ‘hell on earth’. We believe fatherless families are at the root of poverty in Africa. Our goal is to use sport as a bridge for restoring a broken family worldview. Futsal is a FIFA certified 5 a side soccer game that serves as a microcosm of family to facilitate a curriculum of over 200 character values implemented by trained whole life coaches.
Local church partnerships are at the core of this family network to shape a new worldview that will go beyond the field of sport. Our dream is to see the continent of Africa celebrate a renaissance of leadership by training 1.3 million dynamic future leaders. Ubabalo eAfrica serves as our coaching network to prepare coaches for community development during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. There are Ubabalo coaches in every country in Africa. We are pursuing sustainable development by passing on our World Cup lessons for the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup™ through our international network.
