More about The World's Highest Most Inclusive Nature Trail
Sport brings big and small communities together all over the world. When we exercise and engage together, humans have the capacity for greater awareness, empathy and connection. For some, the ability to participate in the most basic athletic activities is difficult if not impossible.
Fortunately, we can change that by opening access to walking trails for all, no matter their condition. Walking is the most common sport in the world and is also the most commonly practiced form of exercise, although it is usually overlooked within the world of sport. However, the ability to walk, hike, explore and connect with nature should not be taken for granted.
By providing equitable access to Ecuador’s Cayambe Coca National Park, everyone will share in the ability to get out of the city and connect with natural beauty. The inclusive trail will grant safe access to those who were previously unable to enjoy this public land. A walk in nature, though simple in practice, is complex in its benefits. Walks through natural spaces reduce stress, heighten our sense of duty to the natural world, and give us appreciation of our human limitations.
