More about The Goal
The Goal was founded to reclaim and provide children and youth with alternative activities to meet their developmental needs. We realized that our community's children are threatened by a diverse number of social ills and turned to what we love, football as a tool for social transformation. The Goal started out by implementing HIV/AIDS life skills and informal small sided football games and reached thousands of learners through our school partnership programme. However we soon realized that we needed to redefine our priorities and structure our programmes to meet the challenges our children and youth were facing.
In 2012 we redefined our focus and started aligning our programmes to what we believed were the most pressing challenges for our community’s children and youth. We identified that our children were struggling with reading at their appropriate age, that our community's children really did not know how to build good character and that there were no safe spaces to play football. We soon combined these elements and came up with what we call our programme philosophy
