More about Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation
There are currently more than 65 million forcibly displaced people worldwide, of which 22 million are refugees. Half of them are children. Having gone through traumatizing events such as war, persecution, and leaving everything behind, many are in poor physical and mental health. They generally have little access to activities that can help them transcend their situation. Just the fact of living in a refugee camp causes many to lack self-esteem/confidence. Refugees living in camps have little to do and do not get enough physical exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle. THF's mission is to empower refuges through taekwondo and related educational activities. Among other projects, taekwondo academies have been set up in Jordan, France, Turkey and Rwanda. We firmly believe that taekwondo training helps improve the physical fitness of refugees whilst also providing them with more self-belief and hope for a better future. Our educational programmes provide participants with universal values of World Peace and Olympism, while insisting on taekwondo tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.
