Cricket in our region has over a long period of time struggled to embrace cultural diversity. Many of the cricket clubs were formed by the traditional cricket communities and drew most of their participants from that demographic. Then came the Sunshine Heights Cricket Club who have smashed through that model of exclusivity to be a stand out destination for people from over 32 different Cald backgrounds and many faiths. This success has been attained by eradicating barriers to entry such as:
1 – Creating a more reflective club environment
2 – Finding subsidies to registration fees,
3 – Providing access to transport,
4 – facilitating input into decision making,
5 – More females involved and putting a female lens over everything we do.
6 – respecting dietary requirements,
7 – Affordable uniforms,
8 – Encouraging and celebrating diversity
9 – Creating role models,
10 – Empathy
11 – Training and education
