SSUSA coach training emphasizes the importance of inquiry-based coaching and developing a growth mindset in our players.
Sports are an important part of the education and youth development, but in our communities sports programs are often cut and outside school, SSUSA youth participants are excluded economically and logistically from the benefits of team sports. Exposure to growth mindset improves school performance for all youth, but for low income and youth of color, the increase in school performance is disproportionately better, because they suffer from a fixed mindset bias and low expectations.
Additionally, some quality education issues stem from a lack of advocacy. SSUSA staff help participants navigate their school choice, ensuring they find the best fit, since for many, their parents don’t have time, the experience, or the language skills to advocate on their behalf. Our trust built through soccer allows us to provide this targeted assistance for those who lack it.
