More about Sport in the Service of Peace: A Comprehensive Method for Conflict Resolution and Multi-Cultural Understanding
The opportunity for Palestinians and Israelis, and Jews and Arabs to meet is incredibly rare, perpetuating harmful stereotypes of the "other." This divide has a severe impact on youth; as the future of the region, they have the most to gain from attaining a durable peace and thus, it is crucial to engage them in peace education programming.
Our holistic conflict resolution methodology utilizes sport to bring Palestinians and Israelis, and Jews and Arabs together to build mutual understanding and respect. Following 14 years of developing and refining best practices - this methodology can be implemented in any multicultural setting.
Our methodology includes 3 principal components: 1) An in-depth training-the-trainers program familiarizing trainers/coaches with peace education through sport techniques and developing relationships between them which serve as important models for participants. 2)Football played using the unique FairPlay (football3) method to promote cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian/Jewish and Arab children. 3)Language Training activities using an exciting, innovative approach to teach the children the language of the “other,” further building acceptance.
