More about Soccer for Success
Soccer for Success Buffalo (SFS) is an innovative, evidence based youth development program that began in 2012 in partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation, Independent Health Foundation (IHF), and Algonquin Sports for Kids. This program is designed to use soccer as a tool to combat childhood obesity in underserved, urban communities.
The main goal of SFS is to improve the health habits of children and families in at-risk communities of Western New York by educating children on the importance of nutrition and fitness through the game of soccer. Children in grades K-8, living in the City of Buffalo and surrounding areas, are eligible for this free after-school program. There are four main components of SFS: physical activity, mentorship, nutrition, and family engagement. These four components are integrated into every aspect of SFS to engage children in a holistic manner during at-risk hours of the day.
