More about Soccer for Gender Equality in Cite Soleil
The Haitian Initiative (HI) was founded by now retired U.S. Men’s National Team player and 2002 FIFA World Cup Veteran Tony Sanneh after he visited Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. What began under the auspices of The Sanneh Foundation (TSF)in 2011 as a one team youth exchange to bring 18 Haitian young people to Minnesota, has become a sustainable year-round soccer for social change program serving 290 youth participants (180 boys and 110 girls), five hours-a-day, six days-a-week in Cite Soleil.
In addition to socially oriented soccer activities for the young people of Cite Soleil, the program now offers a daily nutrition program for all youth, education scholarships for participants, English language classes and stable employment for a staff of 20 coaches and community members.
