More about School of Hard Knocks
School of Hard Knocks (SOHK) uses sport to tackle the issues surrounding unemployment, anti-social behaviour, crime and poor health. We identify adults ‘at risk’ in society whether they are homeless, jobless, or on the wrong side of the law, and school children who are at risk of permanent exclusion from school.
The programme aims to develop participants’ strengths, resilience and resources through structured involvement in positive sporting activities.
We create an environment of controlled but challenging sporting confrontation in which positive role models mentor and support the participants.
Clear goals, expectations and boundaries are communicated from the outset; these are reinforced throughout the programme, constantly challenging and addressing negative patterns of behaviour.
Theory sessions are delivered by the same staff that help coach the practical work, taking advantage of the special bond created in the physical activities.
We aim to help people realise their potential, take responsibility and contribute more fully to society.
