More about Rural Outreach Programme for Education and Sport (ROPES)
ROPES (Rural Outreach Programme for Education and Sport) aimed to engage individuals or groups of volunteers overseas with skills in sports coaching to come and work with the children of Monze. Using sport and recreational activities to engage the children and in particular rural girls to participate in games and physical activities that integrate health and life skills education with focus on HIV/AIDs awareness.
An integral aspect of our programme is the global exchange of ideas and skills in the best techniques and new games for engaging children between the international volunteers and BSI’s volunteer peer coaches. We believed the delivery of sports activities from passionate and skilled international volunteers would give children the life changing opportunity to experience cultural diversity for the promotion of sports development and HIV/AIDs awareness.
This was also an opportunity to learn new games and sports such as cricket and baseball and hear a fresh perspective and message on the HIV/AIDS problem. International volunteers have also helped to increase playing opportunities and training for both the children and our volunteer peer coaches. As well as being a great sense of support in helping us to find sports equipment and kits.
