More about Row New York Adaptive Rowing Program
Through the discipline of rowing and rigorous academic support, Row New York transforms the lives of New Yorkers regardless of background or ability.
Launched on Meadow Lake in Queens in 2002, we set out to increase academic and athletic opportunities for girls living in some of New York’s most under-resourced communities. Thirteen years later, Row New York’s original youth program has grown into intensive year-round middle school and high school programs serving male and female student-athletes. In addition to these programs, Row New York conducts summer camps, indoor rowing programs for over 1,500 teens in public schools and juvenile detention, and adaptive rowing programs for over 300 individuals with disabilities. Across all programs, we served over 2,300 New Yorkers in 2015.
Most of our participants row out of the World’s Fair Boathouse on Meadow Lake in Queens or the Peter Jay Sharp boathouse on the Harlem River in Manhattan. This year, in an effort to reach more underserved teens, Row New York is expanding to a third location – the Paerdegat Basin in Brooklyn.
