More about Rocks in Community

Scottish Rocks professional basketball players are active in the delivery of three “Education through Sport” programmes: Twilight Basketball (TBB) – Targets young people most at risk where and when they are most at risk. Porgrammes match periods of peak disruption in “youth disorder” hotspots. In partnership with the charity Scottish Sports Futures the Rocks utilise sport as the engagement tool to develop transferable social skills.

Sessions are complemented by "Educational Timeouts" briefly described below

  •  Conflict Resolution (workshops)
  •  Employment & further education
  •  Territorialism, racism (workshops)
  •  Community engagement (youth panels and volunteering)
  •  Healthy lifestyles (regular competition and physical activity)

Integration – This programme operates alongside TBB offering formal coaching qualifications, encouraging volunteering and routes to employment with a specific focus on Refugee & Asylum seekers. In this way participants can qualify as sports coaches and this represents a route to employment or volunteering.

They are then seen to be giving something back to the host community which enables integration Jump2it (J2i) - Health and citizenship led primary schools programme utilising Rocks players to deliver positive lifestyle messages. The programme, which is current, will be delivered to over 35,000 pupils in 450 schools Scotland across the next 3 years.
