More about Regent Park Athletic Grounds: A Collaborative and Sustainable Sport Project
The Regent Park Athletic Grounds project is a public/private partnership (Developer/City of Toronto/Toronto Community Housing/MLSE Foundation) which has, in part, transformed 69 acres. After community consultations, we knew the small central park originally planned in the neighbourhood revitilization, would not fulfill all the desired uses. With more than 50 per cent of the Regent Park population under the age of 25 (2,500 youth) and no dedicated athletic space in the community, MLSEF worked with government organizations, non-profits, corporate partners and community organizations, to fund a $2+ million investment to develop the Regent Park Athletic Grounds (RPAG). A hockey rink and fieldhouse, basketball court, soccer pitch, running track and cricket pitch, provided the first And only dedicated athletic space in Regent Park.
We didn’t stop at construction. We knew that we also needed sustainable dollars so youth in the community had programs to participate in, so we launched the Regent Park Granting Consortium, a $1 million legacy grant program focused on sport and capacity development in Regent Park.
