More about Queer Fighter: LGBTQI+ BJJ
What it means to be healthy and what it means to be a valued body in society by its nature is elitist and exclusionary. For transgender people, gender-nonconforming queer folk, in addition to facing high levels of physical violence and discrimination, most don’t feel comfortable walking into a spaces or activities that are centered around the body.
We wanted to provide a program for folks who have gone through trauma or have dysphoria an opportunity to connect with their bodies and find community in the process. Leveraging the team and strength building power of martial arts, we created an LGBTQ+ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program to instill a the value of strength that isn’t confined by gender.
