Protect Our Winters uses outdoor sports to tackle the issue of climate change through mobilizing and engaging our community. We give our members, partners, athletes, and any other individual the tools to take climate action. This can be through educational initiatives, advocacy initiatives, or grassroots activism. We use the voices of our professional athletes and leaders in outdoor businesses to reach the highest levels to government to ensure climate change is being addressed and policies are being put in place.
This is our focus because climate change directly affects what we love, winter. Changes in the winter season are already happening, with droughts in some areas to extremely wet winters with a mix of snow and rain in others. Almost every ski resort is seeing a shorter winter season. This not only affects the sport we love but also the environment and economies of our mountain communities. With less people traveling to these mountain communities to ski, there are less jobs available for the people who live there, negatively affecting the economy. So, not only are we fighting for winter and the environment, but also the people who depend on the winter for their livelihood.
