More about Playing the Long Game
In consultation with partners the Trust developed a Theory of Change to consider and respond to local community need. The problem identified is ‘A lack of engaging sport and physical activity-based solutions to social issues in West London.’ We then considered our assets in dealing with the problem; the Brentford brand and stadium, a classroom based in the stadium, our staff and volunteers and our community and business partners.
The ToC document informed our three-year strategy. Our partners fed back that they felt the strongest area that we could make a positive change was in health. Our response has been to create targeted programmes to help people or groups that face several challenges, such as disability groups, young carers, young offenders and working with the governments troubled families’ agenda.
Our themes are broken down into sports participation, education and employment, community cohesion and health. In practice the themes overlap. We have built in KPI’s to our strategy to measure progress and ensure that there is some flexibility built in to our model so that we can adapt to changes.
