More about Playing Fair, Leading Peace
The Peres Center’s award-winning peace education through sport programs use the unifying power of sport to bridge divides between Jews and Arabs, Israelis and Palestinians in the region. Programs produce lasting changes in perceptions of “the other side”, as well as practical skill-building in the fields of leadership and peace education. Programs reach youth at a formative time in their development, and by providing opportunities for positive interactions on an individual level, counteract negative stereotypes and help youth develop a more inclusive sense of a shared society. Participants show greater optimism towards the possibility of peace and coexistence, and a greater willingness to befriend children from the other group. Coaches, parents, and teachers who witness these programs also often reevaluate their opinions, both of peacebuilding and of the children involved. Additionally, Student Leaders are provided with the skills and experience to go on to become future leaders and peacebuilders, helping to further the vision of the Peres Center.
