More about Path out of Poverty through Sport
The Judo Project was introduced to The Goedgedacht Trust’s “Path out of Poverty” (POP) basket of interventions in 2013. The aim was to introduce sport as a developmental tool to improve the lives of children living in poverty stricken rural communities. Empowering individuals through sport was the aim of Judo Project and was based on ongoing community qualitative needs analysis’ and group feedback. Members of the Judo Team have grown to become disciplined, confident and health conscious individuals. This intervention has become a conduit for information and education awareness on issues such as health, anger management and self-motivation. The results are evident in improved concentration, self-control, leadership and discipline. We measure our impact on an individual basis. Each child presents a unique set of circumstances that require a combination of POP interventions. Our aim is to support children to reach their full potential by providing opportunities to thrive.
